Honley Civic Society

Honley Civic Society was formed in 1984 with the aim of influencing the development of the village in a coherent fashion in line with its heritage. It is a non-political body with around 60 members

By monitoring local planning and development matters, Honley Civic Society hopes to ensure that the built environment is appropriate to its surroundings. The Society also highlights green issues. We seek to promote interest in Honley and its surroundings through researching and publishing a range of books covering the history of Honley.

These now number more than a dozen, with titles such as "Hope Bank," "Honley Cricket Club", "Honley Band" and "A Portrait of Honley". Details of all publications can be seen by clicking here. They are modestly priced and available in Holme Valley News Honley, the Holmfirth Tourist Information Centre and other outlets During the winter months, public talks are held on a variety of subjects of local interest. A series of monthly walks round the area is organised, details of which are on local notices. See details of walks below. They start from Trinity Church Moorbottom at 2.15 on the third Sunday of each month.

The committee meets regularly, examines planning applications and represents the Society at Parish Council planning meetings.
Membership is just £8.00 per year, but if you wish to try us out, then one meeting will cost £2.00 for visitors.
We meet on the second Thursday of each month from September to May (except December) at the Parish Rooms, Church Street Honley. The meeting starts at 7.30pm.

We look forward to welcoming you to Honley Civic Society
